The things I realized, observed and learned after reading 'Godan' by Munshi Premchand.

Godan is considered a milestone in Hindi Literature. The novel by Munshi Premchand was first published in 1936.

It was my first experience reading fiction novels. I am trying to figure out what made me buy Godan and a few other Hindi novels by Munshi Premcahnd. The love for the Hindi language is obviously the most significant reason. But, apart from that it is the name of Munshi Premchand and interest to explore what made him and his novels so famous. I wanted to know, how people used to think, the structure of society, the life of common people in those days, and what things changed for common people.

It took me around one month to complete this, reading a few pages daily. It was the middle of the story which took my genuine interest to finish this. And after reading this amazing piece of work I want to share my thoughts on this. I will not write any summary or review just my thoughts and observations or the hidden messages in this beautiful piece of literature.

The first thing I observed is the ultimate rule of the Universe the law of karma. Karma never leaves you. You pay for your actions today or tomorrow in different ways. After reading this novel I realized that the mindset of people in society is the same to date.

It talked about different humans through their characters. Few people never give up on their ethics and forgive everyone, they try to do good to all but such people are considered fools by society. These types of people trust others easily and people take every opportunity to use them. And these things are relevant today also. Human always realizes their wrongdoings and behavior when life teaches them a lesson and even bring positive changes in their behavior but only for a few days. There are very few human beings who don't repeat their mistake after realizing them.

It shows how everyone is good at your mouth because they need you but they curse you in your absence. You are important to a few people only because you can help them, but if you lose your ability to help them you are not even human to them.

In terms of family and relationships, it shows that no one will care for you as your partner after your parents. Be it your siblings or kids they will always think about themselves first. They will forget all your love for them. So, always feel gratitude for having parents. And take care of your partner, never leave their hand, and never disrespect them because they are the only ones who will be there for you till the end, in your bad days.

This novel shows how things turn when attachments, relationships, and responsibilities may end all those beautiful emotions of love and it may turn to hatred. Pure love should be free from attachments and responsibilities.

This novel gives the message about the poor condition of farmers in the country. It also has hidden messages to highlight social issues and aware people of the practice of dowry, domestic violence, patriarchy, widow remarriage, etc.

I will not put much emphasis on suggesting reading it because today's generation might consider it boring and non-interesting. But one thing I would like to highlight is that this novel will teach you many things which you learn from bestseller self-help books about relations, emotions, humans, and society.
